Founding Director Bob Thorpe came from humble beginnings selling savings plans for an insurance company in 1974, which led to the launch of his own business in 1984. Bob relaunched the business with his eldest son, and now Chief Executive Director Dean Thorpe, in 1999, then in May 2003 Bob’s second son Geoff joined the family run firm. Dean’s wife Jodie then joined Charles James as Company Secretary in 2008.
This award marks a major achievement for a supposedly ‘small firm’ of independent financial advisers that seek to do their best in creating positive outcomes for their clients. Charles James founder Bob Thorpe said:
“A company's personal pride is its foundation stone and our team has pulled together over the years to help build a wonderful business. We have all worked hard and risen to challenges. Building a business is a fantastic achievement and I would like to thank our staff, clients, family and friends. To have had over 34 years in business in a sector that is constantly and rapidly advancing is an achievement that we can be proud of. It may sound corny that back in 1984 I was a young man with a young family, but I had a dream that was simple enough! That dream has well and truly come true!”
Commenting after receiving the award at the Financial Times Head Office in London which he attended, Dean Thorpe said:
“Wow! What an incredible achievement! This was a genuine surprise when I first heard about it. Yes, we work hard and will always aim to do the best we can for our clients and yes, we have a great team of people working with us that we have developed over the years. Without our clients though, we would simply not exist. They have worked with us through good and bad over the years. The outcomes with our clients are what helps define us and it is only by communicating, listening and working with them that we are able to achieve anything. I would like to thank everyone that has been involved with Charles James over the years - past, present and future – and in making their own contribution to our current and continuing success.
